August Heat

August Heat

It was hot, just like this
Back then
When gaslights and red wine broke down a prison wall
And I learn how much I could scare myself

But that was back then
Three, four, five lives ago
The prison walls are reinforced now
And the lights are cold halogen
And maybe the monster has starved to death

It was hot, just like this
Back then
When we ate cornflakes at the front doorstep
And stared into the clear night sky
